What to do in Fuerte

Fuerteventura

The island of Fuerteventura belongs to the archipelago of the Canary Islands in Spain. Its capital is Puerto del Rosario and is the fourth most populated island in the Canary Islands. All the Canary Islands are very touristy, as the weather is very good all year round, so everyone escapes in search of sun at any time.

We will see all the places you have to see Fuerteventura, with its natural parks, the capital and certainly those great beaches that are its main engine. If you want a relaxed holiday where you can enjoy sun and beach, as well as natural areas, think about Fuerteventura.

Visit the dunes and the village of Corralejo

These dunes are located in the northern part of the island, next to the village with which they share their name. They are huge dunes located next to the coast, so the landscape will not leave anyone indifferent. The Corralejo Natural Park is a space full of dunes with turquoise watersin the background. It is certainly one of its most sought after landscapes, and a place we should visit. The island of Fuerteventura offers us unique landscapes where you can take the best pictures. The park is about eight kilometers, so we can invest one morning in visiting it quietly or enjoying its beaches, including Playa del Moro and Playa del Burro. Already in the village of Corralejo, where there is also plenty of accommodation, you can enjoy its old area with its alleys and the port area.

Take a ferry to Lobos Island

This island took its name from the sea lions that until recently lived on its coast. Entrance to the island is limited, so you must request a permit five days in advance. From Corralejo you can take a ferry to visit the island, although they leave only about four hours, in the morning or in the afternoon. On this island you can go on a hiking trail and also enjoy its great beaches. The turquoise waters of La Concha beach in the shape of a crescent are an ideal place to relax.

Make a route through your lighthouses

As on every island, Fuerteventura has many points of its coast where we can find lighthouses, which exercise their function and serve as a tourist attraction. In Fuerteventura we can make an interesting route through its best lighthouses to enjoy them in its coastal enclaves. At the Toston Lighthouse in Punta Ballena we can visit the Traditional Fishing Museum. The Lighthouse of La Entallada in Tuineje is an airplane that also guides planes. The Punta Lighthouse is located in the Jandía Natural Park and dates back to the 19th century, with an exhibition inside dedicated to the seabed.

Stroll through the village of Betancuria

Betancuria is one of the most picturesque and visited villages in all Fuerteventura and also one of the oldest. In this town we can see the church of Santa Maria in French Gothic style in whose foundations are buried the first inhabitants of the village. To learn a little more about this place we can go to the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, where we can see a part of Aboriginal archaeology, another of paleontology and another of ethnography. In its surroundings we can also visit the rural park of Betancuria and the Mirador de Morro Velosa.

See the beach of Cofete

Cofete Beach is a virgin beach about twelve kilometres long that surprises everyone who visits it. Take the road that leads to the village of Morro Jable and reach the Degollada Agua Oveja viewpoint from where you have to go down to the village of Cofete and then to the village. In this area you can visit Casa Winter and also a picturesque cemetery where the car is left. From there you can go down to Cofete Beach. It is a beach with strong waves where bathing is not recommended because it can be dangerous. But it is definitely worth a visit, as it is a wild beach of incredible beauty with miles of sand.

Fuerteventura beaches

On the island of Fuerteventura you can see other beautiful beaches. The beaches of Corralejo are very popular, with their fine sands and turquoise waters. Sotavento beach in Jandia is a wide white sand beach where people usually start in water sports due to its excellent conditions. Gran Tarajal beach in Tuineje is a beach that has darker, almost black sand, although it does not become the dark sand of volcanic beaches in places like Tenerife, but it has its charm.
